DIY Grenades is a Survivor skill available in Dying Light.
Overview[]
DIY Grenades are short-timed explosives which explode a few seconds after being thrown. As expected, explosions create noise which will attract Virals or even worse, Volatiles. To make matters worse, unlike their trap counterparts, these explosives do not attract the infected meaning that if the player wishes to use these grenades, they need to time and position the grenades right.
Care must be taken as the blast of the grenade may harm, if not outright kill the player; this is especially true for the standard grenade, which boasts the highest base damage among the four. However, once the player is able to look past all the weaknesses of the grenades, they may find these quite useful in certain situations where Trap Bombs are insufficient. Their timer is a lot shorter compared to Trap Bombs meaning that they are quite useful against humans, often able to both run them out of cover and/or kill multiple of them.
At the end of the day however, it is highly suggested that the player only unlocks this skill once they are confident in their ability to time and position explosions, deal with Virals, and fight humans with firearms. That or the player simply wishes to unlock Trap Bombs.
